COBA Presentation

First off the COBA presentation was very informative and interesting. I really enjoyed listening to the speech about Study Abroad. This got my attention due to the fact that it seems like a great opportunity that you can't pass up. I learned that with my major I need 3-4 semesters of a foreign language and if I do this program in either Spain or Germany I'll be done in just one semester. That is very beneficial because I can will obviously get done with those requirements quickly allowing me more time for other courses.
I also learned a lot about diversity and its importance to the campus. We discussed that there are so many people and places represented at just this one school. Being inclusive of people different from yourself helps make Texas Tech a better place for everyone. There are events throughout the year that help celebrate different backgrounds from all over the world. We also learned that there are some events that cause controversy unintentionally.
Lastly, the topic on sex, drugs and alcohol informative but presented in a way to get through to me. It's great to know the kind of medical facility we have here on campus and its capibilities. Things are going to happen since it is college but it's good to know what to do and how to handle certain situations that come up. Overall this gathering was shared a lot of information which didn't feel like I was there because I had to. In the end I got a lot out of it and am glad I attended.

  1. I think the study abroad program is a great idea as well. I never thought about how you can do all your foreign language requirement and study in another country at the same time. That would be an amazing opportunity to have and I hope you get to do it. Not only will you get credit you need but you would be in another country and learn about the culture first hand.

  2. You know, we're going to have a guest speaker from Study Abroad this Thursday during class. Looking forward to it. A great possibility. Takes planning and scheduling, but it's really not that expensive.
